Cub Scouts

Here is our cub scout about to head off to his first meeting of the year.  Apparently despite the rather poor weather, fun was had by all.  He has already lost the slide that holds his scarf in place, I may need to put in a supply of a couple, it is the second one he has lost.

Cub scouts is going to be his only activity for a little while.  He has been taking taekwondo, but they changed the schedule and we can't get there anymore.  I am not sure it was the best fit for him anyway.  Maybe it is a blessing in disguise.  We are going to keep on the lookout for something that works better and is perhaps less of a time commitment.  He loves tkd and so we will probably try another martial art, closer to home this time and with fewer hours.  In a way it is a shame and in a way it is a relief.  We had a groove down, and had figured out how to manage 2 or 3 classes a week at a studio 25 minutes away.  At the same time, Harry said when I told him we were going to have to stop going, that he needed a break.  This from a child who didn't complain once, even while being rushed out of the house and having to have much less play and downtime (read none) on tkd days.

At the moment I am very proud of Harry.  He has been doing well with school (as far as I know) and great with homework.  Today he had reading, math and spelling and did it all wonderfully.  He even finished his reading book, although I think he is only expected to read a chapter.  The instructions said to have him read for 20 minutes.  In that time he finished the book.  We still have our little battles around various things, but I think that is all part of childhood and motherhood.  I look at him now sometimes and am amazed at what a big boy he is becoming.  At the same time he is still a little boy who loves imaginary play and being read to.  I am glad for this, because I will miss it when he doesn't want me to read to him anymore.

And Robert, you ask?  Well, that is a whole other story and I'll try to get something down about him later this week.  He is keeping me hopping that is for sure!
