The boys in the sandbox
This toy held his attention for almost an hour
I promised myself that I would write something about Robert before the end of the week. It is Saturday evening now and I am finally getting to it. Just to pat myself on the back, today I have tidied the house, gone grocery shopping, done 2 different science experiments with Harry, cooked a quiche, baked apple bread, made pancakes, baked chocolate chip cookies and also made lunch and dinner. Add in I entertained 2 little boys periodically with games of star wars, reading books and various other entertainments. It was science day here - we made garbled marbles, played with water and volume and set off rockets in the front yard. Kevin meanwhile began two couples on their lives of wedded bliss. One wedding was traditional at the church and the other was more laid back at a beach. Oh and did I mention I have washed his cassock 3x and scrubbed and scrubbed at a permanent black ink stain that isn't coming out? It has been a day, but it is over and now on to Robert, a very fun topic.
Today and yesterday he has napped like a champ, but for the prior week, he has danced, thrown toy, yelled, sung and jumped in his crib instead of napping. I don't know if he is slowly giving up his nap or what. I am still giving him time in his crib in the afternoon whether he naps or not. We both need some time apart!
He is a busy little guy. He loved the science experiment today. He really wanted to get his hands on it, but the garbled marbles started out as tiny little balls and were way to small for him. They expand in water and so would not be good things to accidentally swallow. Still he liked watching and only complained a little that he wasn't allowed to help sort colors. He did however identify the colors for us and did a pretty good job at it too. I don't remember what the milestones are any more and when he is supposed to know colors, numbers, etc. He knows lots of colors already and can do a little counting, but that is only because he's memorized what we say. He was definitely enjoying counting down to the take off of our rocket this afternoon.
Robert has learned how to get to Harry and this morning he was walking down the hallway kicking Harry's favorite stuffed animal. I asked him what he was doing and he proudly said something about how it was Harry's toy he was mistreating! This is the same stuffed animal he gleefully dunked in the dog's water dish won afternoon (lest you think we have a dog - Louise was just visiting for the day). He knows exactly what he is doing and tries to get Harry's goat. Harry bless him, does okay, but does sometimes get rather upset when Robert is going for something Robert knows is not his and is favored by Harry. The rule now is that if you don't want Robert to get it, you have to store it in your room. Robert has learned to go get the stool and can reach whatever he wants. My peace is very limited! He is definitely not left alone in certain places (the kitchen or bathroom for long). He can create total chaos in a matter of seconds!
He is also a delight. My current favorite word is something like "hipmopotomus". When we pull in the driveway from wherever I say, "Home again, home again jiggety jog, to market to market to buy a fat....." and he replies with a twinkle in his eye "hipmopotomus". Which is what I say instead of hog. It is fun when they pick up on little jokes and tell them again and the pronunciation of the word is just lovely.
