Child's play

making connections with Daddy

checking out the new swing at Willa's house

This week, Harry has been in cub scout camp and Robert has been home.  We have tried to do a few special things with him.  We went to the Children's Museum in Providence one day.  He had a good time.  It is a place which is really too young for Harry now, but somehow I haven't managed to take Robert on his own during the school year.  As we approach Robert's first day of kindergarten, I can't help but be amazed at how quickly time passes when you are raising children.  Even despite the fact that some days seem to go on endlessly, weeks, months and years seem to fly by.

Robert is ready for kindergarten and I am ready to see him off, but I will miss having my constant companion around.  I think I would have said the same about Harry.  Robert was born a month before Harry turned 5.  I had almost five years alone with Harry and although I haven't been alone with Robert all these years, Harry has been in school and so Robert and I have had a lot of time together alone.

One of the things we did this week is have a lunch date.  We went to McDonald's and ate and chatted together.  He is a fun and chatty companion.  A week or so ago I gave him a workbook to do, just because I needed to distract him and it was the first thing that came to hand.  He did the whole book in one sitting and really enjoyed himself.  It was a small revelation about how much he can do and that he will do just fine in school.

Now we are just 6 days away from the first day of school and I am hoping for a fun relaxing week.  September will see everybody going back to school and work.  I think I will enjoy having some time alone in the house and getting a few things done, but then I hope that I can find some kind of enjoyable work to do outside the home.  It is a time for change and transition.  I am looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time.
